Shin splint relief!

Have you felt burning or searing pain in your legs lately? It could be a sign of shin splints. I notice an increase in patients with these symptoms in the summer months, usually due to sandal or flip flop usage. Your leg muscles get overworked with walking in these type of shoes that do not provide proper support and also necessitate the contracture of your foot in an upward motion to keep the sandals on your foot.

The term shin splints refers to a condition in which the leg muscles that connect to your feet start to pull away from the leg bone (the tibia). It can cause soreness and swelling as well.

The treatment for shin splints usually consists of orthotics, immobilization, RICE therapy, anti-inflammatories, and sometimes injections. If you start to experience any leg pain, give us a call right away!
