On Tuesday, 49-year-old Tiger Woods announced that while ramping up his own training and practice at his home in Jupiter, Florida, he felt a sharp pain in his left Achilles. It was later discovered that the Achilles tendon had ruptured. Woods, who has not competed on the PGA tour since the 2024 Open, was just over one month away from competing in The Masters this April. He elected to have Dr. Charlton Stucken of HSS in West Palm Beach perform a minimally invasive surgery to repair the tendon.
This comes as a massive blow for Tiger, who missed the 2025 Genesis Invitational earlier this year for personal reasons. Injuries have derailed Woods’s career recently, in September, he underwent his sixth back surgery, a microdiscectomy. During the 2023 Masters, Woods had to withdraw and eventually had surgery on his subtalar joint to repair post-traumatic arthritis as a result of the February 2021 car incident.
