Watson snapped!

Deshaun Watson

A source from Cleveland told the media this morning that Cleveland Browns Quarterback Deshaun Watson plans to undergo an Achilles repair within the coming days. Watson suffered the injury yesterday in a game against the Bengals when he planted his back foot in the ground to try and escape the pocket before falling injured. The slow motion replay shown confirmed the injury basically on the spot with the recoil of the achilles tendon being clearly visible.

Surgical Repair

Watson has a history of working with Dr. Neal Elattrache, who made a household name from the Aaron Rodgers Achilles saga. Back in 2023 Dr. Elattrache repaired a fracture in Watson’s shoulder. There is a high likelihood that Watson opts for the Speedbridge. Opting to do so could take an expected 6-8 month recovery and speed it up to about 3-4 months. It’s to be remembered that Rodgers returned to practice just 77 days post-op; however he never returned to game speed. With Watson’s existing relationship and familiarity with Elattrache and his team, it isn’t an unlikely decision at this moment.

The Browns Season

While the loss of their Quarterback will further hinder and already hurting Cleveland Browns squad they have the likes of Dorian Thompson Robinson and Jameis Winston ready to take control of the offense. Star running back Nick Chubb returned to the field following the conclusion of his rehab from a gruesome knee injury suffered in Week 2 of last season. It’s likely that Watson will be ready for the start of OTAs and minicamp during the offseason similar to Kirk Cousins.
